If you want to live in an area known for being a great place to live, then Boston is your next destination. It is truly a town with something for everyone. Whether you’re considering a move to Boston for your career, education or for family reasons, you’ll have no trouble finding a home in the Boston real estate listings.
Boston’s real estate market has a wide variety of available homes. Listings for properties can be as low as $60,000, although a more realistic starting point might be $80,000. Condos are available in the low- to mid-$100,000s. For something with a little more space (and more than one bedroom) you can expect to find something starting between $165,000 and $185,000. Most listings in this price range will have between 500 and 800 square feet, though you should check these listings carefully because you can find condos with more than 1,000 square feet in some great neighborhoods for less than $200,000. You can even find the occasional three-bedroom condo for just under $200,000.
Houses in the Boston area begin around $200,000, but you should be aware that most homes in this range will need some serious work to make them a worthwhile investment. However, the benefits of even small repairs may be well worth the effort, since most homes advertised as in good condition cost $250,000 or more. Homes between $250,000 and $300,000 probably offer the best value to if you don’t want to do a lot of repairs. You’ll still want to be careful about any listing in this price range because you’ll begin to see some larger homes that need major work appear in the high $200,000s and low $300,000s. Be careful to avoid buying a home that will need major renovations just because it has four or five bedrooms unless you’re willing to pay for the repairs.
If you’re really looking for a top quality home that’s a got a few more rooms, your price range is going to start between $350,000 and $400,000 and go up from there. This is where you’ll start to find some larger homes that don’t need a lot of work. Many homes in this range will be newly renovated or updated. You’ll also start to find homes in some of the nicest locations in this price range. You’ll start to find some luxury homes in the mid-$600,000s.
For those of you who aren’t interested in the work necessary to maintain a home, keep in mind the Boston real estate listings also have condos that are in beautiful condition in some of these higher price ranges. Going with a condo will often put you in a better location and will decrease the amount of work that you have to put into the place.
